Whose age of consent laws apply when people having sex live in two different states?

I am 16 and live in texas and my boyfriend is 18 and lives in virginia (where i go to boarding school) now in texas the age of consent is 17 but there is a loophole that as long as the younger person is 15 and the other person isn't more than 3 years older its ok but since he lives in virginia whose laws apply? mine where it is legally ok for us to have sex or his where the age of consent is 18 and sex between us would
